A History Of Franke Sinks, what makes Franke on top of their game?

In the world of sinks, no company has played as much of a pivotal role as Swiss company Franke. Since beginning in the difficult post war years, this company has pioneered the design and development of domestic and commercial sinks, becoming one of the biggest brands within their industry.

The company produced their first sink in 1925, and has since sold their products all over Europe, America and the rest of the world. They have kept themselves at the forefront of research and development of new materials and products for the kitchen, building up a trusted brand reputation.

The Story Of Franke Sinks

The company was founded in Switzerland in 1911 and began producing sheet metal, which quickly proved difficult as the first world war meant there were limited amounts of materials available. The hard difficult economic period that followed continued to restrict the growth of the business, but by 1930, the company had began to expand as new products were introduced including hobs, skylights and dormer windows.

By the late 1930’s the company had become prevalent in making sinks, producing designs using nickel, monel metal and later on stainless steel. The start of the second world war saw another huge reduction in the availability of materials, but the company did begin producing components of industrial applications such as engine parts or other machinery.

After WW2, the company quickly got back on track and continued pursuing its line of kitchen products, releasing their first complete kitchen in 1946. They also began exporting their products to other countries in Europe for the first time. The 1950’s saw them continue to expand across Europe and double their overall output.

By 1972 the company has taken on 2,600 employees and installed their first kitchen into a McDonalds store in Munich. This is the start of a new path, providing fully made professional kitchens to businesses in the food and drink market.

Now in the modern era, Franke still remains one of the top developers in the world producing new and smarter kitchen solutions. The company is split into four main divisions of systems which are kitchen, foodservice, washroom and coffee services. The business has spread out to over 40 different countries based all over the world, with a workforce that totals 11,000 people.
