Across the UK, the weather is starting to warm up. As spring comes along, now is the time to start giving your home a thorough spring cleaning. It seems like a daunting task, but it does not have to be if you take it one room at a time. The kitchen is a great place to start.

As you begin to plan your kitchen spring cleaning strategy, do not worry. It should not take longer than an hour or two. Stay organised and focused, and you should be done with the task in no time.

Fridge

While you should be cleaning out your fridge on a regular basis, spring cleaning is a great opportunity to give it a thorough tidy. This should include:

  • Remove all the food and examine it. Throw out anything that has expired.
  • Remove and wipe down the shelves
  • Remove and wipe down the produce drawer
  • Clean the fridge door and behind the appliance

Cupboards And Pantry

These areas should be given a similar cleaning to the fridge:

  • Remove all items and examine them. Throw out anything that is inedible.
  • Dust and wipe down all of the shelves
  • When placing items back inside, ensure that like products are grouped together

Countertop

Tidying your kitchen counter tends to make the biggest difference in the look of the room. Be sure to:

  • Wipe down with a kitchen cleanser
  • Wipe down all cabinets
  • Declutter the counter. Anything that isn’t an appliance or essential for cooking should be placed in a drawer or cupboard.

Appliances

Clean the inside and outside of each of your kitchen appliances. Just so you do not miss any, remember:

  • Hob (and pan supports)
  • Oven (interior and exterior)
  • Small appliances (coffee maker, blender, kettle, etc)
  • Microwave (interior and exterior)
  • Dishwasher (interior and exterior)

Drawers

Remove all items from the drawers, and throw out anything that is broken. Also consider throwing out anything that you have not used in the past year.

  • Wash the drawers
  • Wash drawer liners and organisers

Floors

Cleaning the floors should be your last task. It should include:

  • Sweeping
  • Mopping
  • Washing any rugs
