For many of us, Christmas and new year is the busiest time of year and with all the celebrating, hosting and partying, it can take its toll on our homes. Its always good to start the new year with a clean house and a clean mind, as such, today we’re going to look at different ways to de-clutter and organise your kitchen for the new year.

CLEAR OUT OLD FOOD

We all buy more food than we need over the Christmas period and as such, by new year we won’t have used certain items and they’ll most likely be out of date or quickly approaching it. For the former, bin all items past the use by date and for the latter, move soon to be expired items to the front of your cupboards.

THROW OUT PLASTIC BAGS

With the plastic bag fee, its always advisable to keep a collection ready for shopping, however you can have too many. Throw out any excess and any other excess packaging to clear some space. Keep your carrier bag stockpile in an old tissue box in your cupboard.

RETHINK STORAGE

Take a look through your cupboards and think about what your could re-home. Dried pasta, rice, lentils, cereals and other similar products can be put into air tight jars and stacked, this makes its easier to organize your cupboards by having one uniform size of jar.

CLEAN APPLIANCES

Its a big job but it has to be done every once in a while and December is the perfect time. Clean out your Fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, kettle and toaster and any other kitchen appliances, this will help keep your kitchen healthy and clean.

REORGANIZE YOU DRAWERS

We all have specific drawers and we all have a draw specifically of items we couldn’t find a place for. You should go through this draw and see if you can re-home anything in other draws. As for whats left in the draw, organize it so you can always find what you need.
